Koh Samui Nightlife
Koh Samui Bars, Clubs and Restaurants
Koh Samui offers endless entertainment to suit traveller's of all ages and tastes. Whether a good night out means a good meal in beautiful surroundings, a few drinks in a local bar or clubbing all night long... Koh Samui has it all.
Chaweng is without a doubt, the busiest of the tourist areas on Koh Samui. A backpackers' haven of the past, Chaweng is now the hectic party centre of Koh Samui. Along Chaweng Beach road are a massive range of pubs, restaurants, bars and clubs serving every kind of food and beverage that you could possibly imagine.
The
Fisherman's Village, located in Bophut, is a charming, boutique town with stunning views of the neighbouring island of Koh Phan Ngan alongside an idyllic stretch of beach. The narrow beach road is packed with a great choice of restaurants and bars, shopping opportunities and upmarket boutiques. The old wooden shop houses give the place a traditional charm and relaxed ambience which truly is not to be missed. There are no night clubs or lady bars in Fisherman's Village and most of the bars close around 12-1am. Since 2011, every Friday night is
Fisherman's Village Walking Street , when street vendors line the narrow lanes of the village offering all kinds of food, art and gifts
Lamai is the second largest nightlife area in Koh Samui. Not as busy as Chaweng, Lamai has a more relaxed atmosphere than it's big sister, Chaweng. There are many restaurants and bars in which to enjoy the evening and some popular night clubs.
Bangrak is quieter than the other main beach areas of Samui, but there is a lively nightlife here throughout the year. More reasonably priced bars and restaurants line the beach road and a larger proportion of the customers are local ex-pats.
The area of
Maenam has a huge choice of mostly small bars which line the main road. the center of Maenam town has a reasonable choice of both Thai restaurants and restaurants offering International cuisine. There are no nightclubs as such in Maenam but it is a very popular area for bar-hopping.
Koh Samui Bars and Clubs
Koh Samui is famous for its nightlife and you can party on until sunrise.
The
Black Moon Party takes place twice monthly at Chaweng Lake View. Starting at around 2am, when the other bars and clubs are closing down, you can party until the sun rises listening to well-known DJs playing the best in House.
Escape House Party, also at Chaweng Lake View, takes place monthly and the music also plays from 2am-6am.
Like the rest of Thailand, Koh Samui has numerous
Lady Bars. Most of these bars are located in Chaweng's
Soi Green Mango and
Soi Reggae though they are to be found in just about every area of the island.
Night Clubs
Chaweng is the main night club area with the well-known clubs
Green Mango,
Sweet Soul,
Mint Bar,
Sound Pub and
Solo. Sound Pub and Solo are the nightclubs to go to when everything else closes down at around 2-3am and they generally stay open until 6am or later.
Reggae Pub, located near
Chaweng Lake, has a more commercial sound than the clubs above. Opening at around 8pm it plays a mix of music until around 2am.
Lamai has
Fusion, which is the late opener, and
Seed amongst other nightclubs. All are easily found next to the McDonald's on the beach road.
Koh Samui Restaurants
Being a tropical island, Koh Samui has some of the best seafood to be found in the entire world. Local seafood restaurants are experts at serving it as fresh as if it had just been caught. Locally caught fish, crab, prawns and squid can be eaten on a daily basis and at very reasonable prices. As a long time resident of Koh Samui, I would recommend trying Thai food in small, local restaurants as the food is usually much better than Thai food served in the more expensive, tourist restaurants. Check out our reviews and recommendations of
local Thai restaurants in our Koh Samui blog.
For those less adventurous, Koh Samui is home to Burger King, McDonald's, Subway and all the other big name western fast-food outlets.
