About Koh Samui
Koh Samui Weather
Weather Seasons on Koh Samui Island, Thailand
Koh Samui has two main weather seasons throughout the year with a dry, hot season from January to September and cool, rainy season from October to December. It is important to note however that the rainy season is not a time of non-stop rain but rather the time of higher probability of monsoon storms sweeping towards the island with dry, hot, humid days in between.
Koh Samui Weather and Monsoon Seasons
Koh Samui is affected by both northeast and southwest monsoon seasons, though the Thai mainland protects and shields the island from much of the southwest monsoon's effects .
The
northeast monsoon , which blows in from Indonesia and the Philippines, is typically confined to the months of October, November and December and is the time of highest rainfall on Koh Samui with a higher probability of monsoon storms hitting the island.
From June to mid-August, India's
south-west monsoon rages on the western coast of Thailand affecting Phuket and other western islands. This monsoon does slightly affect Koh Samui with heavy rain showers typically in late afternoon and early evening.
