The most popular beach areas are located on the North-East and East coast of Koh Samui. These beaches are Chaweng, Bophut, Choeng Mon, Big Buddha, Bangrak and Lamai. There are many more small, undeveloped beaches in the North, West and South of the island.

Chaweng is the most popular and busiest of the beaches in Samui. On the East coast of the island, Chaweng beach has wonderful white sand and crystal waters, though is often overcrowded, especially in high season.

Bophut beach is on the NE coast of the island. Starting at Fisherman's Village, this beach stretches eastwards for several kilometres to Maenam. Bophut beach is not as developed as Chaweng but there are plenty of restaurants and bars.

Bangrak beach lies between Bophut beach and Big Buddha. Bangrak beach is where you will find speedboat services to Koh Pang Ngan and other nearby tourist destinations. Bangrak is a stretch of beach in Big Buddha Bay with white sands and beautiful views of Koh Pang Ngan and Big Buddha, though is not recommended for swimming because of the large number of piers and boats moored there.

Choeng Mon beach is on the NE tip of Samui between Bophut and Chaweng. Beautiful, white sand curves round the small bay of Choeng Mon. Favoured by local ex-pats, Choeng Mon is a relatively quiet beach with shallow, still clear waters.

Big Buddha Beach is on the NE tip of Samui between Bangrak and Choeng Mon beach. Big Buddha has beautiful views of the island and good swimming.

Lamai beach is on the East coast of Ko Samui, about 10km South of Chaweng. The sand is not as soft as the previously mentioned beaches and the water is deeper but Lamai has a laidback charm and beauty which makes it stand out.
